7/18/2016 0 Comments A Whole Lotta FirstsWe are having a really hard time keeping up with the rapid succession of Baby Bear firsts. 1. First time Baby Bear bit Mama Bear It wasn't malicious, just a tired reflex as he was cuddling in for a nigh-night. However, we were at church at the time of the attack and it was almost impossible to not shout out a not so church friendly expletive. God's Grace in action folks. 2. First time Baby Bear traveled forward: two feet In a more non-traditional, inchworm style, but he absolute made some progress. 3. First time Baby Bear rolled the ball with Papa Bear To be completely fair, we make it pretty impossible for him not to "catch" the ball. And by "catch" the ball we mean rolling it in to his chubby little lap. He then picks it up and his hands get so excited that he has a ball that they start flailing about and they subsequent dropping off the ball is considered a "throw" in our house. 4. First time Baby Bear played in the rain with Mama Bear It was heaven. 5. First bite of BBQ for Baby Bear Actually, we just smeared some BBQ sauce on his lips. He prefers Chicago BBQ 6. First ice cream cone Baby Bear was really impressed. He doesn't have the ice cream cone lick down quite yet and was sucking on it more like a bottle. It was messdorable (equal parts of messy and adorable). 7. First Pool Day Baby Bear has expressed interest in evening out his tan and insisted that he do this pool side. We have an awesome pool in downtown Kirkland that reminds me a lot of our Barrington Barracuda days spent playing sharks and minnows. Over the weekend we hiked Wallace Falls. About two hours in, we were certain that we had made it to the Upper Falls but it turned out we were still at the rookie level Lower Falls. People out here don't play with their hiking-the elevation at Lower Falls is about 1,000 feet. The Upper Falls was just about one mile further but the elevation almost doubled to 1,800 feet. We often end up in these situations, feeling really good about being an outdoor power family: hiking, adventuring, embracing the outdoors. But then we look at the family next to us, with the extreme REI baby carrier, homemade beef jerky, and an adequate water supply. And we stand there with about 1 cup of water left in our shared bottle, hangry because we forgot the snacks in the car, and our baby is dangling from the Orbit 360 which I'm pretty sure he outgrew 10 pounds ago. It's obvious that we're not from around here-back home we hike in flat forest preserves surrounded by highways. We're learning. Stay tuned, we're going camping in two weeks, this should be good.
